| -From the back cover- Is it her next bestseller... Or her last words? In The Chase, award-winning author DiAnn Mills introduced you to the world of Kariss Walker, the bestselling suspense author with a nose for trouble. In The Survivor, Kariss gets the chance to tell her most powerful story yet. But will it revitalize her writing career? Or bring it to a violent end? Kariss meets Dr. Amy Garrett, who survived a brutal childhood attack in which the assailant was never found. Now Dr. Garrett wants her story written in a novel. Kariss wishes she could seek the advice of Special Agent Tigo Harris, but she broke off the relationship a few months prior and seeing him again would be too painful. She interviews Amy and conducts her own research, stepping unaware into danger. Tigo misses Kariss and wants her back, but he understands why she broke off their relationship. Instead, he concentrates on solving a car bombing and bringing the killer to justice. As Kariss's new story attracts an onslaught of danger she never expected, can Tigo save the woman he loves and find who wants her dead for writing about an unsolved cold case? Wow! This was my first DiAnn Mills book it most certainly won't be my last! Just from the cover I was expecting a good suspense story, what I got was a GREAT suspense story. Not only was it really hard to put down but I had absolutely no clue who the guilty party was. Normally, if they introduce all of the suspects, I can make a good guess at who-done-it near the middle to end of the book. Not this time! DiAnn Mills wove her story well, she is a master of the unexpected. | . , . This Book earned a 4.5 Bark rating.

Many of the characters were already Christians, including Kariss, that's one of the reasons she had to break it off with Tigo. I really liked how Kariss stood firm and didn't give in to her emotions about Tigo. Yeah, she is in love with him but she is determined to follow God first and foremost.
We meet a variety Christians in this book, brand new to old, the real deal to the hypocrite. I appreciated the accurate portrayal, no bashing or sugar-coating, just the way people really are. But don't think the reader is beaten over the head with religion, important part of the story, yes, but not page after page preachy.
As many suspense books do, The Survivor deals with some rather difficult subjects but I, as a person who has never experienced anything like the characters, felt that they were handled with reality and sensitivity.
The characters are real, sometimes they are able to forgive and others times they struggle and want revenge. They do their best to protect the ones they love, family and friends alike. Kariss especially, has a knack for putting herself into danger, sometimes needlessly, and is quite stubborn about it. Sometimes I wondered why she did that, but then I got to thinking about how bull-headed I can get at times.... Well, it made a little more sense then.
Overall this was a great book and I am looking forward to reading the first book when I get the chance.
Tell Tale Book Reviews gives The Survivor by DiAnn Mills a 4.5 Bark rating.
