Until Leaves Fall In Paris
by Sarah Sundin
| -From Goodreads- As the Nazis march toward Paris in 1940, American ballerina Lucie Girard buys her favorite English-language bookstore to allow the Jewish owners to escape. Lucie struggles to run Green Leaf Books due to oppressive German laws and harsh conditions, but she finds a way to aid the resistance by passing secret messages between the pages of her books. Widower Paul Aubrey wants nothing more than to return to the States with his little girl, but the US Army convinces him to keep his factory running and obtain military information from his German customers. As the war rages on, Paul offers his own resistance by sabotaging his product and hiding British airmen in his factory. After they meet in the bookstore, Paul and Lucie are drawn to each other, but she rejects him when she discovers he sells to the Germans. And for Paul to win her trust would mean betraying his mission. Master of WWII-era fiction Sarah Sundin invites you onto the streets of occupied Paris to discover whether love or duty will prevail. ISBN-13: 9780800736378 Trust...the hardest five letter word of them all... I wanted to read Until Leaves Fall In Paris as soon as I found out Sarah Sundin had a new book coming out. I don't read as much WWII fiction as I used to but her books are always a must read for me. | This Book received a 5 Bark rating.

I will admit, though, it was almost eerie reading in light of what's going on in the world today. So much of what I was reading seems to be playing out, albeit somewhat differently, in the headlines today. Europe in turmoil, check. Refugees fleeing their homes, check. Invasions, check. Food shortages, check. A little hard to tell if we're talking 1941 or 2022 isn't it?
I was completely intrigued and engrossed by Until Leaves Fall In Paris. The entire premise sounded fascinating and it became even more so the more I read. Sarah Sundin had me hook, line, and sinker with her wonderful characters. Lucie, Paul, Josie, and the dynamic duo Feenie and Mr. Meow. From page one to the last I was immersed in their fictional lives and they soon felt like friends.
One thing I just have to mention is that the paperback cover is gorgeous. It has got to be one of my favorite covers. The color scheme and images fit the story and are just lovely. The illustrations inside that serve as breaks were also a beautiful touch.
I cannot recommend Sarah Sundin highly enough if you are into WWII fiction or historical fiction in general and Until Leaves Fall In Paris is one of her best. It's sweet, poignant, heartbreaking, charming, and really brings the drama and danger of Paris in the early 40's to life. Definitely one of my favorite reads this year!
